Some of the Beauties Created by God That Are Referred to in the Torah

The Beauty of God

One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, 1 and to seek Him in His house. (Psalms, 27:4)

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes, 3:11)

Who is like You, O Lord? Who is like You—majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? (Exodus, 15:11)

Dominion and awe belong to God; He establishes order in the heights of heaven. (Job, 25:2)

The Beauty in Objects

They captured fortified cities and fertile land; they took possession of houses filled with all kinds of good things, wells already dug, vineyards, olive groves and fruit trees in abundance. They ate to the full and were well-nourished; they reveled in Your great goodness. (Nehemiah, 9:25)

You welcomed him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold on his head. (Psalms, 21:3)

Through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. (Proverbs, 24:4)

Beautiful Plants

Consider Assyria, once a cedar in Lebanon, with beautiful branches overshadowing the forest; it towered on high, its top above the thick foliage. (Ezekiel, 31:3)

It was majestic in beauty, with its spreading boughs, for its roots went down to abundant waters. (Ezekiel, 31:7)

I made it beautiful with abundant branches... (Ezekiel, 31:9)

Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant, and on it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, and the birds of the air lived in its branches; from it every creature was fed. (Daniel, 4:12)

Beautiful Foods

Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made. (Genesis, 27:17)

And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said: "Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes." And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto the servant; and he hastened to dress it. And he took curd, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. (Genesis, 18:6-8)

And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall rear a young cow, and two sheep; and it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give, he shall eat curd; for curd and honey shall every one eat that is left in the midst of the land. (Isaiah, 7:21-22)

He made him ride on the high places of the earth, and he did eat the fruitage of the field; and he made him to suck honey out of the crag, and oil out of the flinty rock. (Deuteronomy, 32:13)

And their father Israel said unto them: "If it be so now, do this: take of the choice fruits of the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spicery and ladanum, nuts, and almonds". (Genesis, 43:11)

... At dusk ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God. (Exodus, 16:12)

... [They] brought beds, and basins, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and parched corn, and beans, and lentils, and parched pulse, and honey, and curd, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat ... (2 Samuel, 17:28-29)

Beautiful Places

Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and glory are in His house. (Psalms, 96:6)

Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down... (Deuteronomy, 8:12)

... How beautiful are your tents. (Numbers, 24:5)

Let me go over and see the good land beyond the Jordan—that fine hill country and Lebanon. (Deuteronomy, 3:25)

The pleasant fields, for the fruitful vines... for all houses of joy in the joyous city... (Isaiah, 32:12-13)

When the Lord your God brings you into the land... a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant... (Deuteronomy, 6:10-11)

... this good land, which the Lord your God has given you... (Joshua, 23:13)

... from the good land He [the Lord your God] has given you... (Joshua, 23:16)

Beautiful Scents

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the earnest counsel of one's friend is sweet to the soul. (Proverbs, 27:9)

... They exchanged wrought iron, cassia and calamus for your wares. (Ezekiel, 27:19)

While the king was at his table, my spikenard spread its fragrance. (Song of Songs, 1:12)

Also the food I provided for you—the fine flour, olive oil and honey I gave you to eat—you offered as fragrant incense before them. That is what happened, declares the Sovereign Lord. (Ezekiel, 16:19)

Nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with every kind of incense tree, with myrrh and aloes and all the finest spices. (Song of Songs, 4:14)

Eleazar son of Aaron... is to have charge of the oil for the light, the fragrant incense, the regular grain offering and the anointing oil. He is to be in charge of the entire tabernacle and everything in it, including its holy furnishings and articles. (Numbers, 4:16)

Olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense. (Exodus, 25:6)

Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. (Exodus, 30:7)

Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant cane. (Exodus, 30:23)

Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil. (Exodus, 30:25)

Then the Lord said to Moses, "Take fragrant spices—gum resin, onycha and galbanum—and pure frankincense, all in equal amounts. (Exodus, 30:34)

And make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer... (Exodus, 30:35)

And the anointing oil and fragrant incense for the holy place. They are to make them just as I commanded you. (Exodus, 31:11)

They also brought spices and olive oil for the light and for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense. (Exodus, 35:28)

They also made the sacred anointing oil and the pure, fragrant incense—the work of a perfumer. (Exodus, 37:29)

... Then they brought the tabernacle to Moses: ... the gold altar, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense, and the curtain for the entrance to the tent; the bronze altar with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the basin with its stand. (Exodus, 39:33, 38-39)

And burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord commanded him. (Exodus, 40:27)

Beautiful Words

"So then, don't be afraid. I will provide for you and your children." And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them. (Genesis, 50:21)

An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. (Proverbs, 12:25)

A man finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word! (Proverbs, 15:23)

He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious have the king for his friend. (Proverbs, 22:11)

My heart has uttered a good word... my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. (Psalms, 45:1)

What advice You have offered to one without wisdom! And how plentifully You have declared sound knowledge! (Job, 26:3)
